Best Things to Do in Parga

Explore Parga Castle

Perched high above town, Parga Castle offers panoramic views of the Ionian Sea and surrounding coastline. Built by the Venetians in the 14th century, the castle is a must visit for history lovers and photographers alike.

Visit in the late afternoon for golden hour views and fewer crowds. Make sure you follow the dirt path to the side that leads you to a stunning view of Valtos beach.

Best of all there is no admission fee. It closes at 8 during the summer but they don’t let you in after 7:45 so don’t make the mistake I did, racing up at 7: 45 to get a quick look around (at 7 months pregnant) only to be turned away and have to trek up the steps the next morning before we left town in 40°C.

Parga is known for its welcoming tavernas and fresh Ionian cuisine. The waterfront is lined with restaurants, but usually the best restaurants are tucked behind down an unassuming path. For a more authentic experience, head slightly inland where family run tavernas offer generous portions and traditional recipes.

It is situated higher up on the road as you enter town. We were there in 2024 for 8 days and had take out twice and dined in twice. Their pizza and pasta is delicious and they even serve breakfast. If you get a chance definitely make a stop for breakfast here, as their eggs benedict are fantastic. The aesthetic of the place is super cool and their prices are very affordable.

Best Time to Visit Parga

The best time to visit Parga is May to June and September to early October, when the weather is warm, the sea is perfect for swimming, and crowds are minimal. July and August are lively and vibrant but can be busier, especially with domestic travelers.
