A large part of the Greece’s lamb population is in Epirus so you will definitely taste the difference in freshness. If you drive through the mountains in Epirus don’t be surprised if you come across a heard of sheep just wandering down the road lol.

Driving allows you to explore at your own pace and stop spontaneously at viewpoints or small towns. The routes between Zagori, Ioannina, and the Ionian coast are particularly scenic. The mountains are lush and in my opinion the most beautiful in Greece, although I may be biased as my dad’s village in in the Pindos Mountains close to Metsovo and I grew up driving up these winding mountainous roads.

I recommend renting a car as it gives you the freedom to see parts of Epirus that are difficult to reach by public transport.

10. Visit Parga

A Venetian castle overlooks the town, offering panoramic views of the Ionian Sea. Do not miss the castle if you visit Parga, as the views as breathtaking. You can see the main town from one side and if you follow the path along the cliff you will end up with a stunning view of Valtos Beach. I recommend visit around 7 so that you have a full hour to explore before closing.

Note: 7:45PM they stop letting people in. I found this out after trekking up all the stairs to get there before closing at 7 months pregnant, only to be turned away. Don’t do what I did.

The beaches near Parga, including Valtos Beach, and Lichnos Beach are perfect for swimming and relaxing.

Boat trips to nearby islands and hidden coves are popular with visitors.

In the evenings, the waterfront comes alive with restaurants, cafés, and a relaxed holiday atmosphere. Plan to head out before dinner for a stroll through the alleyways (sokakia in Greek) and along the waterfront before the sunsets. Bring your camera or phone as you’ll want to take some pictures.
